There are three ways to interact with thermostats: by name, by location, by general device type.
- To interact by name, use the exact device name in the command.
- To interact by location, The location must be in the device name.
Example: If the thermostat is named living room thermostat you could say, "Alexa, ask Building 36 to Turn my AC on in the living room."
- To interact by general device type, use the words “thermostat”, “therm”, “temperature”, or “temp”.
Example: "Alexa, ask Building 36 to set the temp to 71 degrees." Note again that this will only work if you have one thermostat.
The list of commands is a small subset of the possible things the user can say to their thermostat.

Ask a question
To ask about temperature

- “Alexa, ask Building 36 to what's the temperature on the living room thermostat?”
- “Alexa, ask Building 36 to what's the heat set to in the living room?”
- “Alexa, ask Building 36 to what's the temperature?”

To ask about mode
- “Alexa, ask Building 36 to what's the mode of the living room thermostat?”
- “Alexa, ask Building 36 to is the living room thermostat on?”
- “Alexa, ask Building 36 to what mode is my thermostat in?”
- “Alexa, ask Building 36 to what's the thermostat mode?”
How does mode impact my commands?
- AC or Heat - The temperature value will be set or increased/decreased to the commanded value.
- Auto - Adjusting the temperature while in Auto mode will set either the high or low setpoint. It is not possible to change both the mode and the setpoint in one command.
Example: "Alexa, ask Alarm.com to Set thermostat auto mode to 85 degrees" would not work. To do so, change to Auto mode and then set the temperature. For example, "Alexa, ask Alarm.com to Change the thermostat to Auto mode," followed by "Alexa, ask Alarm.com to Set the low setpoint to 68."
- Off - No adjustment commands will work and you will be prompted with what mode you would like to change to.
