Compatibility:

The Home by Building 36 Skill is compatible with all Alexa-enabled Amazon devices (e.g. Echo Spot, Echo Dot, Echo Show, etc.).

Compatibility considerations include:

  • Doorbell cameras are not compatible with Amazon Alexa.
  • It is not possible to play video on Echo device screens.

Requirements:

To use Building 36 with Amazon Alexa, the user must have:

  • A customer account powered by Building 36.
  • Hub, lights, thermostats, locks, garage doors, or camera powered by Building 36.
  • A device with Amazon Alexa, such as the Echo or Echo Dot.

Important: The Amazon Alexa powered device must be set to English.

To set up the Home by Building 36 skill with Alexa:

Enable the skill
Using voice commands:
  1. Tell the Alexa enabled device: ‘Alexa, talk to Building 36.’ Alexa will respond that a Building 36 account needs to be linked.
  2. Open the Alexa app on a mobile device or go to Alexa.amazon.com on a web browser.
  3. On the Home dashboard, there is a Home by Building 36 card at the top of the app with a Link Account button.
  4. Tap Link Account.
  5. To finish linking your account, scroll down to Linking the Account.
Searching through Skills on the Amazon Alexa App
  1. Open the Amazon Alexa App on a mobile device.
  2. Tap Menu icon.png. 
  3. Tap Skills & Games.

  4. Type Building 36 into the search bar at the top of the screen, then tap to select Home by Building 36. 
  5. Tap on Home by Building 36. The skill should be at the top of the list.
  6. Tap Enable on the skill page and follow the directions listed in Linking the Account to link the Building 36 account.
Link the Building 36 account
  1. Log in with the Building 36 account credentials, then tap Allow.
  2. It will ask to enable secure actions. Secure actions are security sensitive (e.g., unlock the door, open the garage) and protected behind a four-digit pin. If interested, tap Allow (proceed to step 3), otherwise tap Deny (proceed to step 4).

    Note: Appropriate system permissions are required in order to access secure actions.
     
  3. Enter the four-digit pin, then tap Submit.
  4. The account is now linked. Tap the x in the top left and begin interacting with Building 36 through Amazon Alexa.

Now you can enjoy your lights, thermostats, locks, garage doors, and security system with the Home by Building 36 Skill for Amazon Alexa.
