This article explains how to change batteries on a variety of different Yale smart locks:

A) YRD216, YRD256, YRD136 deabbolt / YRC216, YRC226 interconnected locks

B) Yale Assure 2 deadbolts (YRD614, YRD624)

C) Yale YRL216 and YRL226 lever locks

D) Yale commercial lever locks (NTB612, NTB622)

E) Yale interconnected locks (YRC226, YRC216).  

 

A) Yale YRD216, YRD256, YRD136 deadbolts / YRC216, YRC226 interconnected locks:

You will need:

Phillips screwdriver
Four (4) non-rechargeable AA batteries

1. Using a Philips screwdriver, remove the black battery cover on the interior side of the lock by rotating the screwdriver in a counterclockwise motion. Note: The screw is attached to the battery cover by a locking mechanism and will not fall free even after loosening. 

 

2. Remove the battery cover by sliding it up and away from the interior assembly.

 

3. Remove old batteries. Note: Do not mix old batteries with new batteries, as this may damage the lock.

 

4. Insert four (4) non-rechargeable AA batteries into the battery slots ensuring the polarity of the batteries match the +/- in the battery compartment. The lock will emit a tone that ascends then descends (YRD216) or it will emit four ascending beeps.

 

5. Replace the battery cover and use the Philips screwdriver in a clockwise motion to tighten the screw and secure the cover.  

 

B) Yale Assure 2 smart deadbolts (YRD614, YRD624):

1. Slide the black battery cover up on the interior side of the door.

2. Pull the ribbon in the battery cover to pull out the 4 AA batteries

3. Insert the 4 new AA Batteries (with ribbon cable re-inserted so batteries can be pulled out). Please check orientation of batteries to makes sure correct!

4. Reinstall the black cover by sliding it down. Lock should boot up and you will hear a series of beeps if done correctly.

 

C) Yale residential lever locks (YRL216, YRL226):

Use the included tool to depress the case from the hole on the top of the lock per the picture below. This will allow you to pull the case open (direction towards you). Remove the 4 AA batteries and replace with 4 AA batteries in the proper orientation. Reinsert the cover at the bottom first and push into the top of the lock until it is secure.

How to Change Your Yale Lock Batteries

 

C) Yale commercial lever locks (NTB610, NTB612, NTB622) :

1. Use the included 3/32" hex wrench to loosen the screw at the top of the lock 

2. Slide cover plate up to expose batteries.

3. Remove old batteries and replace with new AA batteries.

4. Reattach cover plate and tighten screw with hex wrench.
